Special Resources to accompany Art and War: The Artists Rifles and Romford, 1915 to 1918
A series 6 entertaining evening talks will be taking place January through to March expanding on the themes introduced in Havering Museum's temporary exhibition Crime and Punishment. For a ticket to a lecture it is £3.50 or you can purchase a ticket to all 6 for the price of £17.95. Lecture price includes admission to the Museum and light refreshments. The Curious Case of Oldchurch Hospital’s Bogus Doctor - Thursday 19 January 2012, 6-7pm. Dick Kirby, a former Flying Squad Officer now turned author, talks about one of his most astonishing cases - the investigation in 1991 which led to the arrest of a bogus doctor.
Homicide - How To Catch A Victorian Murderer - Thursday 26 January 2012, 6-7pm. Author Linda Rhodes shares local stories of true crimes from the Victorian era, before the discovery of DNA and fingerprinting. What evidence was used then to track down murderers?
Wildlife Crime - Thursday 2 February 2012, 6:30 – 7:30pm. Ian Knox shares his experiences as a Wildlife Police Officer in Havering. NB: This lecture is at later time of 6.30 pm.
CSI Havering - Thursday 9 February 2012, 6-7pm. Helen Windsor, Forensic Officer discusses the advances in forensics and the role it plays in catching criminals and successful court cases.
To Catch a Smuggler - Thursday 23 February 2012, 6-7pm. Steve Bridle, of HM Revenue and Customs provides an entertaining evening covering the history of smuggling to current day stories of smuggling techniques.
A Fitting Punishment - Thursday 8 March 2012, 6-7pm. Mike Hughes, author of ‘Judgment Impaired’ shares his experiences as a Police Officer whilst dealing with serious crime, the limitations of the legal system, the impact on the victim and the ineffectiveness of the judicial system.
