About Us

The Museum tells the remarkable story of Havering from pre-history to the present day and celebrates the achievements of local people while exploring how the areas that make up the Borough were formed and developed. The Museum came about due to the dedication and hard work of a small band of local people, including librarians and historians. In 2008, in partnership with the London Borough of Havering, the project received a Heritage Lottery Grant. The Museum opened in May 2010 and is completely volunteer led.

The Museum is located on the ground floor of the old Romford Brewery building, with the Reception and Shop area at the main entrance. There are two permanent Galleries which explore the local history through different themes. The displays have been designed so the showcases and graphics are easily viewed by visitors, with everything on one level. The Museum is completely wheelchair accessible.
