In the run up to Christmas we’ll show some of the objects added to the Museum’s collection in the last 12 months. These objects will be on display at the Museum until we close for Christmas on 16th December.
Located at 30 The Arcade, South Street, Romford, Wells Music Stores Ltd is another long lost Romford establishment. It was a popular music shop, but the business closed in 1996. The shop was often described on adverts as being alongside the police station, prior to the latter being relocated to Main Road in 1965. This bag is undated but presumably dates from after this time, perhaps from the 1970s or 1980s.

I have a 7″ single paper bag from Wells Music Stores it is brightly coloured which I would say would be more 70s or maybe 60s this one looks older maybe 50s. I am happy to share a photo if you wish.
Hi Andrew,
Yes please, if you’d like to send in a photo, I’ll pass it on to our Collections Team to see if we can date it.
Thanks
Pete Johnson
I have a record sleeve from this store dating from the 1930’s or 1940’s. If you want a copy sent quote DSC_0990 so I can find it!
Hi Robin,
Thanks for the offer, I’ve passed it over to our Collection Team to see if they are interested in it.
Thanks

Hello, I have an old lowrey digital piano that we want to find a new home for. On the front of the piano it has a big Wells music store badge on the front with the telephone number on below. I wondered if the museum would like it as it’s beautiful and is from Wells.
I’ve got two receipts from your store in the lid of my dad’s reel to reel tape recorder, Cossor CR1601, of when he first collected it and then made the final payment on it! 😊
