Historic Brewery painting returns to Romford

A rare painting of a lost Romford landmark has returned to its hometown and been put on display at Havering Museum.

The picture of Romford Brewery, viewed from the south, was painted in 1860 by an unknown artist. Owned by Carlsberg UK, it had been on loan to the National Brewery Centre in Burton upon Trent since 2011. It now forms the centrepiece of Havering Museum’s latest temporary exhibition, Mine’s a Pint: Ind Coope and Havering’s Brewing Heritage, which launched earlier this month.

The loan was arranged by Chloe Branwhite, Collections Team Leader, and Matthew Abel, Exhibitions Team Leader. Matthew said, This painting is a beautiful record of a famous local industry which sadly no longer exists. I had never seen it before, and I am very glad that it has returned home to Romford for local people to enjoy.”

The “Mine’s a Pint” exhibition runs from 11January to 22 March 2014. For more information email exhibitions@haveringmuseum.org.uk or phone 01708 766571.
