Object of the month – Romford Shutter Pull-down

Romford Shutter Pull-down

This object is a pull-down part of a security shutter most commonly used by shops as a measure against theft and trespassing. The metal-cast embossing of this particular objects indicates that it was used or intended for local buildings around Romford.

Romford is historically a market town since at least 1247 when the Romford Market was first established. Given the nature of the town, Romford has attracted many local businesses making it a hotspot for trade in the Borough of Havering.  The area’s popularity meant that security was essential to keep the businesses safe, therefore, mechanisms such as this one are used even to this day.
