Volunteering at Havering Museum

Havering Museum is a volunteer run independent museum. Without the many people who choose to give up their own time every week, the museum would not function. For myself the volunteer experience at Havering Museum has been a fun and often challenging one. I have enjoyed many different roles in the museum such as working on the front of house, assisting with special events in the Museum and off site, and helping with school visits. For the special events I have done childrens face painting and even been an elf for the Christmas Fayre. I really enjoy meeting the people that visit the museum, adults and children and making the visitor experience an enjoyable one for them. For a while now I have also run our Saturday Childrens club The Havering Hedgehogs. This has been such a great experience seeing the children each week and really getting to know them and their famillies. I enjoy planning the sessions and carrying them out each week, the messier the better! If I wasnt volunteering I may not have had this experience. Volunteering offers you the chance to try out different roles in the Museum and find out what works best for you, and where your talent can be best used. I myself have grown in confidence since working at the museum and I see the same in many other of our volunteers. People may have so many different reasons for volunteering. We have people who are retired, students, people not currently working, or people who fit in voluteering with their own jobs. Some are like me, a busy Mum working part time but who really enjoys having this extra time to spend on my own interests. Whatever the reason I am sure we would all agree that the time spent volunteering at Havering Museum is always time well spend and an enjoyable one.
